Maintains opening without support: The window must stay open on its own. You shouldn’t need to prop it open with a stick for someone to escape through.
Sprinkler exception: Buildings with full sprinkler systems are exempt from egress window requirements. This applies to some newer strata buildings and custom homes, but rarely to typical Metro Vancouver houses and basement suites.
